Declare hand fan a luxury item, tax it, Shujat pokes fun at govt

PML President Chaudhry Shujat Hussain has said the government should declare hand fan a luxury item and propose tax on it. He said that those who put electric fan in the category of luxury items had air-conditioners in their bathrooms.

Talking to a delegation of the Pakistan Electric Fan Manufacturers Association (PEFMA), he said that business community’s concerns should be addressed. He said that electric fan is something every poor man needs. He said it was government’s duty to provide facilities to businessmen, but here electric fan was being declared a luxury item. He said there were several food items, like export-quality food, which can be taxed.

The PEFMA delegation was led by Mirza Jamshed. Abdur Razzaq, Gayyasuddin Paul and Raja Qamar were also part of the delegation.
