33 injured in bomb attack at JI rally in Karachi

At least 33 people injured in a blast occurred in Jamat-e-Islami rally in Karachi on Wednesday.

According to the details, the JI organised a rally to express solidarity with Kashmiris. When the rally reached near Masjid Baitul Mukaram, Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, a blast was occurred and injured 33 people so far. 

According to sources, a motorcyclist thew a hand grenade at the JI rally, resultantly, 33 people sustained injuries. Police and rescue teams reached the site and shifted the injured people to nearby hospital for medical treatment. 

Executive Director and Head of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Dr Seemi Jamali said that sever injured people were being treated at Jinnah Hospital. Three were identified as Abubakar, Nadeem and Mujtaba. 

The Sindh health department said that 10 other injured were shifted to Aga Khan Hospital, 10 were moved to Liaquat National Hospital and five injured were transported to Al-Mustafa Medical Centre. 

Earlier, SSP East Sajid said that more than 10 people were injured during the explosion. He said that RGD-1 grenade was used in the attack.

An eyewitness said that the JI rally was on its way to Hassan Square, when a motorcyclist came near Masjid Baitul Mukaram and threw a hand grenade at the rally. He said that the blast occurred when JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman was addressing the rally. 

Hafiz Naeem condemned the blast and said that such coward acts could not demoralise the JI workers and activists. He said India could not press our voices through these attacks. He urged the party workers to cooperate with police. He said that JI would continue to fight for the Kashmiris at every forum. 

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi condemned the attack at JI rally. 

In a tweet Zaidi wrote: “Strongly condemn the blast during Jamat Islami’s main Kashmir rally near Bait ul Mukkaram Masjid in Karachi. A very cowardly act but will not prevent us from raising our voices against Indian tyranny in #IIOJK.”
