Rain clears up fog, brings more chill to many Pakistan cities

Murree receives season’s first snowfall

Intermittent light rain continued in many cities of the country including in Punjab on Tuesday intensifying the cold wave that has buffeted Pakistan for so many days now and clearing up the fog, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Rain-thunderstorms hit a number of cities Monday evening and the spell continued on Tuesday. Murree hill station received the season’s first snowfall which was heavy bring down the temperature to minus one-degree centigrade.

The rain was reported from several cities of the northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas on Tuesday.

Thundering clouds and a medium rainfall also cleared up fog after a strong westerly wave hit the upper parts of the country, the Pakistan Met Department (PMD) also forecast that the wave was likely to persist in the upper parts of the country until Tuesday evening.

The Pakistan Met Department (PMD) said a cold wave in Karachi is expected to last a few more days.

Later Tuesday rain-thunderstorms (with snowfall over hills and few hailstorms) are expected in Islamabad, upper/central Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. 

Isolated heavy falls are likely to occur in northeastern Punjab, Potohar region and Kashmir. Snowfall is also expected in Murree and Galiyat and cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Snowfall (Inches): Malam Jabba 05, Astore, Kalam and Skardu Trace.

Tuesday’s Lowest Minimum Temperature (°C): Gupis -11, Leh -10, Skardu, Quetta, Kalat, Astore -07, Bagrote, Kalam, Parachinar -06 and Dalbandin -05.

In Faisalabad, after a rain low lying area inundated and 120 feeders tripped. While, showers reported in Gujranwala, Narowal, Phalia, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Chiniot, Jhang.

In twin cities, Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi, the rain has continued since last night turning the weather chilly and pleasant. The TV channel reported Murree, Galyat, other mountainous areas received snowfall.
