Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chairman Fazlur Rehman has said that Saturday’s session of the National Assembly, where Prime Minister Imran Khan is going to take the vote of confidence from his party members and allies, has no political value.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad on Friday, Fazl said no member of the opposition parties would attend the National Assembly session on March 6 therefore the session would prove to be a useless exercise. He said the prime minister had lost the House’s confidence therefore he should take a fresh vote of confidence. He said that former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s victory against PTI candidate Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the Senate election was a clear sign of no-trust against Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said the PDM did not consider the government led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) a representative of people.

Fazl said the prime minister was of the view that a bidding for votes was held before the Senate election on March 3. He said the prime minister was calling PTI lawmakers a saleable commodity. He said the prime minister said in his address to the nation that he would take people out on the streets, but he did not explain against who. He said that prime minister’s body language during his address to the nation showed he was a looser. He said that even President Arif Alvi said the prime minister had lost the confidence of the House.

The PDM chairman said that a meeting of the opposition alliance, which consists of 11 parties, has been convened on March 8 to take important decisions. He said the PTI got the bogus mandate to form government in the centre; it should convene a bogus meeting of the National Assembly and get the prime minister the required number of votes. He said that opposition’s absence will make the National Assembly session on Saturday useless.
