Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chairman Fazlur Rehman said on Wednesday that opposition parties were fighting for supremacy of law in Pakistan.

Addressing an anti-government gathering in Bannu under the banner of the PDM, an alliance of 11 opposition parties currently trying to topple the federal government led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Fazl said the alliance had taken to the street to restore the democratic process in the country. He said the PDM showed the nation the path of freedom and democracy.

Referring to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government, Fazl said that opposition parties would throw the “puppet government” into the sea and destroy it. He said there was no writ of law or the government in the country. He said that terrorists were roaming freely in the country. He cited the murder of a young man, Usama Satti, in Islamabad at the hands of the counterterrorism police, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). He asked the government to tell what Satti’s crime was.

Fazl said that rulers had destroyed the national economy and the prime minister was saying two and a half years after his election to power that he was inexperienced when he took over the government. He said the prime minister was worthless, but there were some competent people working in his government. He said that people were forced to commit suicide in the tenure of the incumbent prime minister. He said the country was sinking and the prime minister was talking about progress. He said there was no system of governance in the tribal areas and the promise of eliminating terrorism from the country was not honoured.
