Police on Tuesday arrested six out of 12 under-trial criminals who managed to flee from Lahore’s Model Town district courts lock-up yesterday in the presence of cops, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The prisoners who were facing various criminal charges including larceny, robbery and drug peddling managed their escape by indulging in rioting in the Model Town lock-up on Monday.

The inmates tore down the wall of a toilet and broke open the lock of the Bakshi Khana gate. They took out bricks and flung them at the policemen present in the lock-up thus repelling them and wormed their way out of the sessions court facility.

However, the police managed to nab six of the escapees today. Those who were arrested included: Ahmad Ali, Haider Ali, Faisal Masih, Pervaiz Din, Javed Ahmad and Muhammad Ahsan.

Police formed special teams to hunt them down vowing to arrest the remaining escapees soon. They have also registered another case of lock-up break against the accused.

In another development, the administration also changed the police staff at the lock-up and the new force took control of the facility.

Model Town sessions court lock-up in-charge inspector Imran Yaseen informed that the facility was being prepared for the inmates coming from jail to attend hearing at district courts. Now the administration has decided to build a double brick wall instead of a single brick wall. Besides this, the number of cops deputed at the lock-up facility has also been doubled, he added. He said security around Model Town was increased.

Sessions judge takes notice

On the other hand, a sessions judge of Lahore took notice of the incident of the under trial criminals’ escape from the lock-up.

The judge asked the Lahore CCPO to submit a detailed report of the lock-up break incident to the court.

On the order of the sessions judge, the police administration has chalked out a security plan for all the courts including sessions court. Extra police force has been deputed at Cantt, Model Town and district courts’ lock-up facilities.
