The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered a senior official of the Islamabad administration to visit the Banigala residence of former prime minister and ex-PTI chairman Imran Khan, which has been designated as a sub-jail for his wife Bushra Bibi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard Bushra’s plea, seeking her transfer from Banigala to Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
Bushra’s lawyers Usman Riaz Gill, Shiraz Ranjha and others appeared in the court, while Prosecutor Malik Abdur Rehman, who represented the Chief Commissioner Office, submitted to the court the office’s notification of shifting of Bushra to Banigala.
The judge asked the state prosecutor whether permission was sought from the inmates of Banigala residence before declaring it a sub-jail for the former first lady.
The prosecutor replied that since Bushra was the former first lady of Pakistan, therefore she was shifted there in order to ensure her security.
Usman Gill, counsel for Bushra, argued that the whole process was illegal. “This was for the IG Jail, and not the superintendent Adiala Jail, to decide whether his client would remain in the jail or would be shifted to her Banigala residence, which has been designated as a sub-jail,” he added.
Justice Aurangzeb then asked as to under what circumstances the former first lady had been kept in the sub-jail.
Gill replied that she had been incarcerated in a room.
The state counsel said that he would ask the jail officials and would then inform the court.
