The nine opposition parties’ alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Tuesday bent over and accepted the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Yousuf Raza Gilani as united Opposition Leader in Senate.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, Gilani was recognized as the opposition leader in the first joint meeting of the opposition parties in the parliament in which PPP and PDM leadership participated.

The sources said that the opposition parties in the Senate had decided to give the government a tough time because the strength of opposition parties was high than treasury benches in Senate.

Addressing the meeting, Joint Opposition Leader in Senate Gilani said that the government would face full competition in the Senate as they had a majority.

Gilani advised the senators of opposition parties that they should ensure their presence in the joint session of the parliament.

Pertinent to mention here that the PDM had not recognized Yousuf Raza Gilani as the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and had declared Azam Nazir Tarar as its opposition leader. But now the PDM had withdrawn the name of Tarar.
