Ban imposed on kite flying in several ares of Lahore on Basant

While Basant — the traditional festival of kites — will be observed across Lahore on February 6, 7 and 8, authorities have imposed a strict ban on kite flying in more than 15 sensitive areas of the city to ensure the safety of airport operations.

According to airport sources, the Pakistan Airport Authority has issued special instructions aimed at protecting aircraft movement during take-off and landing. Following negotiations between the provincial and district governments over the past month, a decision was made to ban kite flying in areas located near key flight paths.

Kite flying will be completely banned in parts of DHA, including four blocks of Defence — PQRS Block — as well as Bhatta Chowk, Nishat, Ali View Garden, Ali Pak, Nadirabad, Johle Pul, Al-Faisal Town, Taj Bagh Canal Bank and surrounding localities.

Authorities said that although Basant festivities will continue in the rest of the city, no one will be allowed to fly kites in these restricted zones. Strict action will be taken against violators under Section 144, which will be enforced in the notified areas.

Sources revealed that a formal notification from the Punjab government is expected soon to implement the restrictions.

The primary objective of the ban, officials said, is to ensure the safe take-off and landing of aircraft while allowing Basant celebrations to proceed in other parts of Lahore.
