Met Office predicts first ten days of Ramazan will be cold
Heavy rains expected on March 2 and 3: Upper areas to face snowfall:
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the first ten days of Ramazan will be cold, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to weather gurus, a series of westerly winds will enter the country today, and heavy rains are expected on March 2 and 3, while snowfall is expected in the upper areas.
Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Punjab, issued an alert for rains for a majority of the areas of Punjab from March 2 to March 4.
According to rain forecast, the weather will remain dry during the day in Islamabad and its surroundings while rain with strong winds is likely in the evening.
The Met Department forecast rain and snowfall in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand and Kohistan is likely.
Rain and snowfall in the mountains are likely in Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Peshawar and Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Karak, Hangu and Kohat.
Rain and snowfall is also likely in Murree, Gulyat and its surroundings during the night.
Moreover, rain is likely in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Kot Addu.
Weather is expected to remain dry in most districts of Sindh.
However, rain and snowfall in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Mastung, Pishin, Qila Abdullah mountains, Qila Saifullah, Chaghi, Noshki, Kharan, Kalat, Barkhan Khuzdar, Harnai, Zhob and Sherani are likely.
In a statement, PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia said there was a prediction for rain and snow in Murree and Galyat during the aforementioned period.
Similarly, the DG said rains had also been forecast for Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan.
He directed the commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on their toes in view of the inclement weather.
Kathia also directed the WASA, Rescue 1122, the Irrigation Department, Livestock, and other concerned departments to remain alert.
He also urged people to avoid travelling unnecessarily during the harsh weather, and in case of an emergency, contact the helpline number: 1129. “The situation is being monitored from the PDMA control room round the clock.”
