PFA laboratory checks 2403 items in last nine months

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) laboratory issued an inspection report of over 2403 food items samples that were checked in the laboratory in the last nine months, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PFA DG Rafaqat Ali Niswana briefed the media regarding the performance of the food laboratory in which out of 387 spices 24 samples failed while 24 samples of beverage samples failed out of 289.
PFA DG said that out of 309 products of cooking oil and ghee, 85 failed. 19 products of ice cream and frozen dessert proved to be defective. Out of 128 dairy products, 6 failed.
Out of 15 samples of frozen fish, 12 passed with 3 failures. All 117 samples of food colors passed. Out of 29 meat samples, 11 passed while 18 failed.
Niswana said that laboratory analysis of 387 products of bakery items, eggs, and confectionery is underway. According to Punjab Food Authority rules, all food items must be analyzed once a year, he said.
All failed products have been removed from the market and destroyed. The purpose of food testing across the province is to give the industry a chance to improve.
