KP government dispatches 35 trucks of relief goods for Afghan earthquake victims

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has sent 35 trucks loaded with relief goods to Afghanistan for the victims of the recent earthquake, which has left nearly 1400 people dead and more than 3,400 injured in Kunar province.

A special ceremony was held at the PDMA headquarters in Peshawar to formally hand over the consignment to Afghan authorities. The event was attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Relief Nik Muhammad Khan, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Secretary Relief Yousaf Rahim, Director General PDMA Asfandyar Khattak and other senior officials. Afghan Consul General Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir was also present and received the relief supplies on behalf of his government.

The consignment includes two trucks of medicines and other essential relief items such as 500 winterized tents, 500 family-sized tents, 1,000 tarpaulins, 1,500 mattresses, 3,000 pillows, 1,500 quilts and 500 blankets. Provincial officials said these supplies are aimed at addressing the immediate needs of displaced families and shielding them from the harsh weather.

On the occasion, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah expressed solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, offering condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the injured. He assured that the provincial government would continue providing assistance until the rehabilitation of the affected families.

Afghan Consul General Mohibullah Shakir lauded Pakistan’s gesture, calling it a testament to the enduring goodwill and brotherly ties between the two nations. He thanked the government and people of Pakistan for their timely support and termed the aid a lifeline for families left homeless by the disaster.

The devastating earthquake in Kunar province has destroyed thousands of houses, forcing many families to live under the open sky. Officials noted that the relief sent by Pakistan would help ease their hardships during this critical time.
