SC launches fast-track mechanism to resolve longstanding tax cases

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday announced a fast-track mechanism to resolve pending tax cases, warning that prolonged delays are harming investment and economic stability, 24NewsHD TV reported.

The decision came during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, attended by Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb and the FBR Chairman, among other senior officials.

The Chief Justice stressed that delays in tax disputes undermine investor confidence and reduce financial capacity, calling for immediate action on critical cases.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between the judiciary and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and agreed to enhance case management systems in courts.

Officials were also directed to provide clear and timely recommendations to prevent bottlenecks in tax adjudication.

Highlighting the importance of reforms, the Supreme Court said tax reforms are vital to protect national revenue, and urged the judicial process to be aligned with Pakistan’s economic priorities.

With the new measures, major tax cases will now be fast-tracked, aiming to restore investor confidence and ensure financial stability across the country.
