Punjab to replace non-tested school heads with merit-based appointments

In a major shake-up during the summer break, the Punjab government has decided to remove heads of government schools who were appointed without a formal test, and replace them with candidates selected purely on merit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.

The School Education Department has announced that a written test will be conducted in July for the appointment of school heads across the province. To facilitate this, six examination centres will be established in every district.

In a directive issued to all district education authorities, the department has asked for detailed data to help set up the required examination infrastructure. The deadline to submit this data to the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Punjab is July 4.

Each examination centre must have essential facilities, including electricity, internet access, and CCTV surveillance. Additionally, centres must be capable of accommodating at least 40 candidates at a time.
