Rising global fuel prices jacking up electricity rate: report

The production cost of electricity in Pakistan has raised with the increase in the prices of fuel at international level, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to a research report on the cost of power sector in Pakistan in Sept 2021 released on Wednesday, the cost of fuel used in the generation of electricity in the month of September has been hiked by 65%. The price of electricity produced by the RLNG has soared by 120%.
The report said that the production cost of electricity in Pakistan climbed following the rise in the fuel prices at international level.
In Sept 2021, the per unit production cost of electricity remained Rs6.80. The price of electricity produced by the RLNG has been raised by 120%.
The price of electricity generated by the RLNG remained Rs14.90 as the price of the RLNG has hiked by 125%.
According to the report, the price of coal in the international market has been elevated by 182%. The production cost of the coal-generated power remained Rs10.10 per unit after an increase of 67%.
The furnace oil-generated electricity became 54% dearer and its per unit cost remained Rs19.20.
