PML-N seeks PPP support for proposed 27th Amendment, confirms Bilawal

The federal government has sought the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) support for the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
According to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, a delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with President Asif Ali Zardari and him to request the party’s backing for the amendment.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Bilawal said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) delegation led by the PM had approached the PPP for support in passing the amendment.
Bilawal explained that the proposed 27th Amendment includes several key provisions, such as the establishment of a constitutional court, the restoration of executive magistrates, the transfer of judges, and amendments to Article 243, which is related to the armed forces.
It also proposes the removal of provincial share protections in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, the return of education and population planning powers to the federation, and measures to end the deadlock over appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan, he said.
Bilawal further stated in his tweet that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting has been scheduled for November 6, upon President Asif Ali Zardari’s return from Doha, to decide the party’s policy on the proposed 27th constitutional amendment.

Meanwhile, sources said the prime minister has begun consulting other allied parties after the PPP meeting.
According to the sources, the government has decided to reach out to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan chapter (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Awami National Party (ANP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazlur Rehman group (JUI-F) to discuss the main points and preliminary framework of the proposed amendment.
On the other hand, the government has decided to convene the National Assembly session on Wednesday, November 5.
According to reports, the Prime Minister’s Office has forwarded a summary, prepared by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, to the Presidency for approval.
It is also pertinent to mention that the Senate session is also scheduled to be held tomorrow, on November 4.
