Fugitive Naples mafia boss arrested for murder

An Italian mafia boss accused of murder has been arrested on the Amalfi Coast, Italian police said on Saturday.

Roberto Mazzarella, head of the Mazzarella clan of the Camorra, the Naples-based organised crime group, was arrested in the town of Vietri sul Mare, the police said in a statement.

Mazzarella "had been staying in a luxury villa on the Amalfi Coast and did not resist arrest," the statement said, adding that he was with his wife and two children at the time.

The 48-year-old had been on the run since January 28, 2025 when he was due to have been arrested on murder charges, the statement said.

The Mazzarella clan is famed for its involvement in counterfeiting in Naples, which has long been associated with banknote forgery.

Police last month detained 16 people allegedly linked to the Mazzarella clan on charges of cyber fraud.
