Iran denies involvement in drone strikes on US Embassy in Riyadh

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denied involvement in a drone strike on the US embassy in Riyadh on March 3, calling it a “Zionist operation” and accusing the US-Israeli alliance of trying to destabilize the region, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

Saudi authorities had initially described the attack as causing minor fires and limited damage.

However, a US news report citing current and former officials said multiple drones hit the embassy, damaging three floors and a CIA station, with fires burning for nearly half a day.

The report said an Iranian drone initially struck the embassy building, creating a breach, and a second drone hit the same spot one minute later, damaging three floors and reportedly affecting a CIA station inside the compound.

Additional drones were fired in the hours following the initial strike, but were intercepted by missile defense systems.

The report suggested that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s earlier statements about the extent of the damage had understated the incident, noting that some embassy sections were destroyed.

The attack, which occurred at 1:30 am, could have caused significant casualties if it had occurred during business hours.

While Iran denied responsibility, the incident demonstrated that critical US sites in the region could be targeted, highlighting the heightened tensions between Tehran, Riyadh, and Washington.
