ECP issues notice to Maulana Fazl’s brother over code breach

The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) Dera Ismael Khan office on Friday issued a notice to Maulana Ziaur Rehman, a civil servant and brother of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, to explain why his picture was printed on the material used in electioneering in the recently held local bodies’ polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Maulana Zia will appear in the ECP tomorrow (Saturday, February 5, 2022).
The notice made this clear to Zia that since he was a civil servant, he could not in any case participate in an election campaign, and that his picture printed on a banner of his brother’s party JUI-F was a clear-cut violation of the elections’ code of conduct.
“Not only that, you also participated in the election campaign of JUI-F candidate Kafeel Nizami in Dera Ismael Khan by addressing a public gathering held in this connection,” reads the notice.
