Enough is Enough! Sharmila Faruqui wants swift justice in Sana Yousaf murder case
Calling for swift justice in the TikToker Sana Yousaf's murder, lawmaker Sharmila Faruqui has stressed the need for promoting tolerance to put an end to vigilante justice.
Taking to her Instagram handle, the PPP lawmaker said: “The cold-blooded murder of Sana Yousuf in broad daylight is not an isolated crime – it’s a terrifying symptom of a nation descending into lawlessness and intolerance. “
She added: “A young girl was killed simply for living life on her own terms. This wasn’t honour – this was murder. We are witnessing the rise of vigilante justice, where individuals take the law into their own hands, emboldened by a justice system that rarely delivers. Women are being targeted for expressing themselves – for speaking, rejoicing, dreaming – while the state remains silent.
She continued: “There is a dangerous erosion of tolerance in our society. Every act of violence reflects the impunity we’ve allowed to fester – and the misogyny we’ve refused to confront.
“Justice must be swift. Honour killings must be prosecuted as premeditated murder. The state must protect its daughters, not bury them under the weight of excuses.
“Sana’s death must not become just another headline. It must be a turning point. Enough is enough.”
The murder of MBBS student Sana Yousaf in front of her mother and aunt in the country’s capital a couple of days ago sparked widespread outrage and calls for action from civil society, activists, and celebrities alike.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the Islamabad police arrested the prime suspect and recovered the murder weapon and Sana’s mobile phone from him. The suspect also confessed to the murder, he added.
According to police, the 22-year-old murder suspect committed the crime because she repeatedly refused his advances.
