IHC declines to stay installation of M-Tags on bikes

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed the concerned officials to submit reply on the petition filed against the administrative order of pasting M-Tags on motorcycles within seven days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

However, the petitioner did not get immediate relief as the court stopped short of granting ‘stay’ in the case.

Speaking on the occasion, IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Sarfaraz Dogar said that the purpose of issuing M-Tags was to identify the vehicle. “This is being done for your benefit,” he remarked while addressing the petitioner’s lawyer.

The CJ further said that it was the government’s policy matter.

The lawyer was of the view that this was causing great inconvenience to the people, who had to stand in queues during the holy month of Ramadan to get M-Tags.
