Dananeer Mobeen’s Lyari-inspired look steals the premiere
Pakistani actress Dananeer Mobeen made a striking impact at the UK Asian Film Festival in London, turning the premiere of her debut film Mera Lyari into a bold cultural moment with a look rooted in Lyari’s identity.
Blending traditional Balochi elements with contemporary design, her appearance not only captured attention on the red carpet but also reflected the powerful story behind the film, making her one of the standout highlights of the event.
Stepping onto the international stage, Dananeer paired a traditional Balochi ghair wali shalwar with a structured corset, creating a fusion look that stood out instantly.
The corset featured illustrations of girls playing football mirroring the film’s narrative while her jewelry and custom nail art carried the words “Lyari” and “Afsana Baloch,” the name of her character, adding a deeply personal touch.
Her styling went beyond fashion, serving as a tribute to the resilience and spirit of Lyari. Every detail echoed the film’s core message, which focuses on female footballers from Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood and challenges long-standing stereotypes through a story of ambition, identity and strength.
Directed by Abu Aleeha, the project is already drawing attention for its cultural depth.
Dananeer later shared a carousel of photos and videos on Instagram, captioning it, “From Lyari, to London. For the UK premiere of Mera Lyari.”
The caption reflects more than a location shift it highlights a journey of representation, taking a local story to a global platform and celebrating her roots.
She also revealed the intense, last-minute effort behind the look, sharing that her visa arrived on the morning of her flight while her outfit was prepared within a single day. Thanking her team, she described the moment as a result of passion, teamwork, and dedication.

The film’s screening at the UK Asian Film Festival 2026 marks a major milestone for Pakistani cinema.
The project, backed by a strong cast including Ayesha Omar, Trinette Lucas, Sammiya Mumtaz, Nayyar Ejaz, Paras Masroor, and Adnan Shah Tipu, is set for nationwide release in Pakistan on May 8, 2026 under Distribution Club.
