From Sammy to Babar, Zalmi secure historic second PSL Crown

Peshawar Zalmi secured their second Pakistan Super League title on Sunday, defeating Hyderabad Kingsmen in the PSL 11 final and ending a long wait since their maiden triumph in 2017.

Zalmi first lifted the trophy in PSL Season 2 in 2017 under the leadership of Darren Sammy, when they beat Quetta Gladiators by 58 runs in the final.

Despite being one of the most consistent teams in the tournament, Zalmi had reached multiple finals in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and now 2026, but had won the title only once until this year.

With their victory today, Zalmi added a second PSL trophy to their cabinet, this time under the captaincy of Babar Azam, marking a significant milestone in the franchise’s history.

Zalmi captain Babar Azam finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament, amassing 588 runs across the season.

Meanwhile, Sufiyan Muqeem emerged as the top wicket-taker, claiming 22 wickets and playing a key role with the ball throughout the competition.
