PM Shehbaz to leave for Malaysia today

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will leave for Malaysia on an official visit today.

According to the Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, the prime minister is visiting Malaysia on the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim from Oct 5 to 7.

He would be accompanied by a delegation consisting of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers and senior officials.

According to the Foreign Office, the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Malaysia is strong and long-standing. The prime minister is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his Malaysian counterpart. The meeting will focus on regional and global issues.

On this occasion, both leaders will consider increasing cooperation in trade, IT and telecom, halal industry and investment. Cooperation in education, energy, infrastructure and digital economy will also be discussed at the meeting.

Measures to increase public relations will also be discussed at the meeting. During the visit, agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed. The spokesperson said that Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to promote peace, stability, trade and investment. Pakistan is determined to further strengthen friendly relations with Malaysia, the foreign office said.
