The National Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution, reiterating Pakistan will never compromise on the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination as guaranteed under international law and UN resolutions, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The resolution was moved by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam in Urdu and by Shazia Marri in English.

The National Assembly strongly condemned India's illegal, unilateral and morally indefensible actions of 5 August 2019, which aimed to alter the internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir in violation of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.

It declared that no unilateral action by India can change the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir, which remains on the agenda of the United Nations.

The resolution affirmed that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is not an internal matter of India but a global issue requiring a just resolution in accordance with UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

It called upon the international community to stand for justice, not silence, in the face of Indian oppression and human rights abuses in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The House affirmed that Pakistan's moral, political and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people remains unshakable and enduring.

It acknowledged that Kashmir is the unfinished agenda of the partition of the Indian subcontinent, and this House commits to continue raising the Kashmir issue at every regional and international forum.

The Lower House condemned all forms of Indian state violence and coercive tactics aimed at erasing the identity, culture, and political aspirations of the Kashmiri people, which have failed and will continue to fail.

The resolution said the House observes 5 August as a black day that marks the beginning of an illegal siege, gross human rights violations and the denial of fundamental freedoms to the people of IIOJK.

The National Assembly rejected India's attempts at demographic engineering and political persecution in the region, which violate the Geneva Conventions and all norms of international conduct.

The House demanded that India be held accountable for the systematic human rights abuses being committed in IIOJK, including arbitrary detentions, torture, media blackouts and collective punishment.

It declared that silencing the voices of Kashmiris through force, censorship and occupation cannot be defined as peace, it is tyranny.

The House asserted that peace and stability in South Asia are impossible without the just and final resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

The resolution urged the international community, especially the United Nations, to break its silence and fulfil its long-standing promise to the people of Kashmir.

The House demanded the immediate implementation of all relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which call for a free and impartial plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.

It insisted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir must be allowed to determine their own future freely, fairly and under the supervision of the United Nations.

It affirmed that while laws can be changed and imposed, the will of a people cannot be revoked by decree or force. The House further declared that from Srinagar to Islamabad, the heart beats as one for the freedom and dignity of Kashmir.

It recognized that 5 August is not merely a date in history but is a continuing reminder of the need for global conscience and moral clarity on Kashmir.

The National Assembly resolved that Kashmiris have not surrendered, and neither will Pakistan, in its principled support for their cause.

Youm-e-Istehsal observed

Pakistan has urged the international community to play a role asking India to repeal the draconian laws and implement the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir as Youm-e-Istehsal was being observed on Tuesday throughout Pakistan and Kashmir to express support for the Kashmiri people's right to freedom and protest India's illegal and unilateral action of August 5, 2019.

It was on this day in 2019 that India unilaterally and illegally stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status, the action which has since then been rejected by the international community, Kashmiris, and Pakistanis alike.    

Special events were organized to mark the day in a befitting manner.  

A rally was taken out in Islamabad from Foreign Office which was joined by dignitaries and people from different walks of life before concluding at D-Chowk.

One-minute silence was observed at 10:00 in the morning. Special walks and events were held across all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.  

Pakistani missions abroad have also organized special events in connection with Youm-e-Istehsal. 

Special broadcasts were aired to highlight the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people, contributions of the leaders of the Kashmir freedom movement, and the harsh realities of Indian oppression.

President, PM messages

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have paid tribute to the resilience of the Kashmiri people and reiterated Pakistan's unwavering moral, political and diplomatic support for their right to self-determination.

In their messages on Youm-e-Istehsal, they called upon the international community to urge India to halt its human rights crimes in IIOJK, reverse its unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019 and implement the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

President Zardari said India's move on August 5, 2019 was aimed at changing the disputed status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and weakening the right of Kashmiris to self-determination.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the just resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute was a key pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy and urged the international community to play a role to halt Indian human rights crimes in IIOJK and reverse its unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019.

PM Shehbaz, in his message on Youm-e-Istehsal, also called for global community’s role in urging India to repeal the draconian laws and implement the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

“On this Youm-e-Istehsal, the Government of Pakistan and I reaffirm the unwavering solidarity of the Pakistani people with our Kashmiri sisters and brothers. We reiterate our strongest condemnation of India’s illegal and unilateral actions taken since 5 August 2019 to alter the demographic structure, and political landscape of Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), in complete defiance of international law, norms and principles, as well as the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council,” the prime minister remarked.

Calling Youm-e-Istehsal a sobering reminder of India’s rejection of peace and stability and its investment in brutality and unilateralism, he said that the continued denial of the basic human rights, dignity and identity of Kashmiris living under India’s illegal and unconscionable occupation was a recipe for regional instability.

The prime minister said that India’s occupation could not be sustained by any normal means, and it has thus doubled down on a nearly eight-decade regime of state terrorism and oppression.

“The brave Kashmiri people have endured this brutality with incredible dignity. Today is a day for all Pakistanis, and all peace-loving people of the world, to salute the unwavering resilience and spirit of sacrifice of the Kashmiri people.”

He said that the efforts to silence the genuine leadership of the Kashmiri people were part of the wider hegemonic and extremist agenda that informs India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir.

“The imprisonment of Kashmiri leaders and activists, including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Masarrat Alam Bhatt will never dim the resolve of our Kashmiri sisters and brothers. The continued defiance of Kashmiris in an environment of unending intimidation across the illegal Indian occupation is more proof of the indomitable courage of the Kashmiri people,” Prime Minister Shehbaz added.

He said that India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir remained the defining conflict of the South Asia region, and the driver of India’s continued rogue behavior.

“India’s unprovoked aggression against Pakistan in May 2025, and its swift and comprehensive military defeat are only the latest evidence of the urgent need for the international community to ensure that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute becomes a global priority. The will and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions are the only path forward.”

The prime minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unflinching stance, moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people till the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination.
