Motorway sections shut down due to thick fog

Fog engulfed different areas of Punjab and upper Sindh on Tuesday morning, prompting the Motorway Police (MP) to take necessary measures and shut down sections of highways, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

A section of the motorway M-3, from Faizpur to Nankana Sahib, in Punjab had to be closed for traffic.

The Motorway Police (MP) directed the motorists to look for alternate routes to get to their destinations.  

The MP also directed them to avoid travelling unnecessarily till the fog was over.  

A spokesman for the MP Syed Imran Ahmad said that section of the motorway had to be closed in order to ensure the safety of people.

He advised drivers to use fog lights, drive at a slow speed and keep distance from other vehicles.

“For information and assistance, road users can contact us on helpline No 130,” he said.    

Fog in Narowal

The traffic moved at a snail’s pace as dense fog in Kartarpur and its outskirts in Narowal reduced visibility to even less than five meters.  

On the other hand, police directed people not only to drive at a slow speed but also in their lanes.

They also directed them to use double indicators.

On the other hand, the winter season has started making its presence felt more strongly as the minimum temperature in Narowal was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius.

Fog in Obaro

Dense fog in Obaro city and adjoining areas in Sindh forced the closure of the section of the motorway, M-5.

MP asked the motorists to avoid travelling unnecessarily.

While on the one hand weather became chilly due to fog, it also resulted in the suspension of power supply to different areas of the city.

Fog in Shikarpur

Dense fog also engulfed Shikarpur and its surrounding areas, resulting not only in marked reduction in visibility on the National Highway and other areas but also in drop in temperatures.

The supply of electricity to different areas was suspended as well.
