Sindh tightens security for 960 Chinese working on CPEC, non-CPEC sites
Home Department issues province-wide directive after IG’s letter: Chinese nationals to receive enhanced protection during transit and on-site movement
The Sindh Home Department has ordered heightened security for 960 Chinese nationals across the province following a formal request from the Sindh Inspector General of Police.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the directive comes amid ongoing concerns surrounding the safety of foreign personnel working on major infrastructure and energy projects.
In a letter addressed to the department, the Sindh IG detailed the deployment of Chinese workers at various project sites.
According to the breakdown, 72 Chinese nationals are engaged in the restoration of the Sukkur Barrage, two are working at the Sukkur Beverages Company, and one is stationed in Obaro.
Additional deployments include one Chinese national in Larkana and 11 in Kashmore. The largest concentration, 835 workers, is at the Thar Coal Power Project, while another 38 are associated with the Nabisar Water Supply scheme.
The IG urged the Home Department to intensify protection for all Chinese personnel employed on both CPEC and non-CPEC initiatives, underscoring the need for robust oversight.
He further recommended that commissioners, DIGs, and the Special Protection Unit personally monitor all security arrangements.
Responding to the letter, the Home Department has issued formal instructions to enhance security protocols and has notified commissioners and the SPU regarding the presence and movement of the 960 Chinese nationals.
It has also directed authorities to enforce strict protective measures during the transit and on-site movement of Chinese workers across Sindh.
