Pakistan steps up screening at borders amid Nipah virus concerns in India

Federal and provincial health authorities have stepped up precautionary measures following reports of the Nipah virus in neighboring India, directing all Border Health Services to ensure complete screening of passengers at entry points.

According to health officials, both federal and provincial health departments have issued instructions to enhance surveillance and screening procedures at airports, seaports, and land borders as a preventive step.

As part of preparedness measures, an eight-bed isolation ward has been established at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital located at Nipa Chowrangi in Karachi. The ward has been fully equipped with medicines, drips, injections, and dedicated medical staff to handle any suspected cases.

Health authorities have clarified that no case of the Nipah virus has been reported in Pakistan so far.

Medical experts have advised the public to adopt preventive measures, including consuming fresh fruits and vegetables. They have also urged people to avoid eating old or cut fruits to reduce the risk of infection.

The health department said it remains on high alert and continues to monitor the situation closely to prevent any potential spread of the virus in the country.
