1,200kgs substandard meat seized, destroyed in Rawalpindi

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) impounded 1,200 kilograms of substandard meat near Rawalpindi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

A spokesman for the Punjab Food Authority said that a PFA team intercepted a vehicle near Toll Plaza Thalian. 

During a detailed examination, the PFA team recovered 1,200 kilograms of substandard and unhygienic meat, which was being transported from Sargodha Jhang Road to the Rawalpindi City area.

A veterinary doctor present at the scene declared it unfit for human consumption and hazardous to public health. Police took custody of all the meat and destroyed it on the spot.

The Punjab Food Authority team also registered a case and arrested a person. The spokesman said that the Punjab Food Authority’s ongoing campaign against substandard and unhygienic food items will be further expedited.
