Following the economic transformation vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab government has prepared a Rs1.22 trillion master economic development plan for the upcoming financial year 2026-27.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, under the proposed plan, the government has recommended allocating Rs700 billion for the establishment of a Punjab Wealth Fund.
The Punjab Wealth Fund is expected to serve as a major financial vehicle for supporting long-term economic development and investment across the province.
The proposal also includes an allocation of Rs300 billion for a Punjab Infrastructure and Guarantee Fund, which is intended to support major development projects and strengthen the province’s economic foundations.
The TV channel reported that technology and digital development have been given significant attention in the economic transformation vision of the Punjab CM.
The Punjab government has also proposed setting aside Rs30 billion for information technology infrastructure and data centres.
Following the CM's vision, Rs30 billion has been earmarked for power sector reforms and initiatives aimed at attracting private investment.
The economic blueprint also places a strong focus on South Punjab, where new industrial clusters and agro-processing zones are planned.
The government is proposing a series of measures to promote food exports and strengthen the agricultural industry through value-added processing and modern industrial facilities.
Officials say the broader objective of the strategy is to transform Punjab into a modern, technology-driven economy capable of attracting investment, generating employment opportunities and supporting sustainable growth.
Public-private partnerships are also expected to play a central role in implementing the plan and financing key development projects.
The Punjab government has described the Economic Transformation Plan as the cornerstone of its upcoming budget and a roadmap for long-term economic modernisation across the province.
