Senate panel fumes over foreign-educated students appearing in MDCAT

Senate Sub-Committee on Health Convener Anusha Rehman has expressed displeasure over the issue of taking test from students studying in medical colleges abroad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday. 

A meeting of the Senate Sub-Committee on Health was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Convener Anusha Rehman, in which Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) officials briefed the committee on the MDCAT exam 2026. 

Convener Committee questioned that under which law should students of medical colleges outside the country return and take the PMDC exam? 

Students who study in medical colleges outside the country return as doctors, Convener Committee said.

Convener Committee further questioned that under which laws PMDC conduct exams from students and how does PMDC come up with such ideas? 

PMDC officials replied that students who study in medical colleges outside the country become a burden for PMDC.

If there is substandard education in medical colleges outside the country, then it is not PMDC's problem, Convener Committee said.

PMDC takes whatever decision it wants and implements it, Convener Committee said.
