Imran-led govt increases electricity prices after petrol

After the petrol prices, electricity rates have been increased by the sitting government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of Rs1.68 paise in basic electricity tariff.
Due to the increase in the tariff, the average price of electricity became Rs15.36 per unit and NEPRA’s decision would apply to all distribution companies including Karachi-Electric Company.

NEPRA has issued a notification of increasing the tariff of electricity.
NAPRA said that the basic electricity tariff was increased at the request of the federal government and it would apply to all electricity distribution companies including K-Electric.
NEPRA further stated that the decision would take effect after notification from the federal government and the increase would not apply to users of up to 200 units per month.
The increase in the electricity tariff will cost power consumers an additional Rs135 billion.
