An accountability court in Lahore on Thursday indicted PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz in Ramzan Sugar Mills reference, as they pleaded not guilty to the charges, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Before his indictment, Shehbaz addressed the court and said he might be a sinful person but he did not leave any stone unturned for serving the people. He had served the people of Punjab for 10 years, added the PML-N president.

“The prosecution can say whatever they want to but they know in their hearts what the reality is,” remarked Shehbaz who said he had visited all parts of Punjab for serving the masses but didn’t claim any TA/DA or petrol for his vehicle which amounted to millions of rupees.

Shehbaz told the court that he launched projects and brought investment worth trillions of rupees and even saved a total amount of Rs100 billion in the Orange Line project.

The PML-N president said he had been accused of corruption through the constructing a drain costing Rs200 million and questioned would he do anything like that when he had not even claimed TA/DA.

Earlier, Amjad Pervaiz – the defence counsel – requested the court to allow him present his arguments before indictment and said the drain was constructed after the cabinet approval. How corruption could be attributed to the project and the court had been misguided on the issue, he added.

The defence counsel said the reference was mala fide and Hamza had been nominated for being the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly.

When both Shehbaz and Amjad requested the court to allow him leave the court due to backache, the judge observed that he could do so after indictment.

Before the start of court proceedings, Shehbaz, during an informal and short interaction with media, said Hamza’s detention for over one year was a manifestation of NAB-Niazi nexus.
