In a big relief for the electricity consumers, the Lahore High Court Monday declared the collection of fuel adjustment and other surcharges in electricity bills illegal, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.

The court accepted the petitions filed against the fuel adjustment charges in the electricity bills.

Justice Ali Baqir Najfi delivered a reserved decision on 3659 applications of various natures.

The court reserved the verdict on October 10, 2022.

The court declared fuel adjustment in electricity bills of agricultural and domestic consumers illegal.

Fuel Charge Adjustments (FCA) are decided by NEPRA to account for the variation in fuel prices and generation mix. According to NEPRA, the actual increase or decrease in fuel cost prices has to be adjusted in customers monthly bills in the form of Fuel Charge Adjustments (FCA).

Moreover, the LHC directed the federal government to generate electricity from renewable energy sources including solar, nuclear and others.

The high court further stated in its ruling that the power tariff should not be changed without holding talks with the consumers besides ensuring uninterrupted supply.
