Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan presided over a  meeting on local body elections in Punjab on Thursday.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the commission official said the body has no objection to the use of EVM in Punjab LB polls.

A total of 250,000 EVMs will be required for Punjab local body elections, the meeting told. According to the Constitution, the commission is bound to hold elections within 120 days after the dissolution of local government and if body purchase these machines, the LG polls will not be held within 120.

However, the pilot testing in Punjab local body elections is possible, the official said.
