South Korea increases visa quota for Pakistani labourers

South Korea has increased Pakistan’s labour quota by 30% for the year 2025, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

According to details submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the National Assembly, Pakistan has been allotted a quota of 5,400 workers for 2025, a notable increase from 2,400 workers last year, following successful negotiations with the Human Resource Development (HRD) Mission of South Korea.

Officials stated that the quota hike reflects South Korea’s confidence in the skills, discipline, and productivity of Pakistani workers employed under the Employment Permit System (EPS).

Previously, in June 2022, South Korea had raised Pakistan’s employment quota from 1,000 to 1,500 workers annually, acknowledging the consistent performance and contribution of Pakistani labour in key sectors.

Under the EPS framework, South Korea recruits foreign workers to fill labour shortages in manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. Workers accepted under this system receive E-9 visas and are placed in industries requiring skilled manpower.

To qualify, Pakistani applicants must pass the EPS-TOPIK (Korean language proficiency test) and undergo a skills assessment. The process is managed by Pakistan’s Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC), which oversees applications and ensures compliance with Korean employment standards.

The HRD mission, aimed at enhancing workforce capability through training and skill development, has played a pivotal role in expanding Pakistan’s employment opportunities abroad.

Officials emphasised that the increase marks a new milestone in Pakistan-South Korea labour cooperation and will further strengthen bilateral economic ties.
