Government hikes power tariff by Rs2.51 per unit 

The federal government on Sunday increased electricity price by Rs2.51 per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The decision was pronounced on the petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for an increase in the power tariff under the fuel price adjustment for the month of July. 

Billions of rupees will be received from consumers in the electricity bills of the ongoing month.  

On Friday, 24News TV channel reported that electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi, will receive inflated bills after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved increases under both monthly and quarterly tariff adjustments.

Nepra, the channel reported, had increased the electricity tariff by Rs2.06 per unit under the monthly adjustment for July 2026, according to a notification issued by the regulator.

The monthly adjustment will be reflected in consumers’ September electricity bills and will also apply to electricity consumers in Karachi.

Separately, Nepra has approved an increase of 52 paisas per unit under the quarterly adjustment for the April-June 2026 period and sent the decision to the federal government.

The quarterly adjustment will remain applicable for three months, from September to November 2026.

According to Nepra’s decision, the quarterly adjustment will also apply to electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi.

The quarterly increase is expected to place an additional burden of Rs12.67 billion on electricity consumers.
