Sohail Afridi vow stronger mobilisation, call for end to ‘rule of oppression’

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) general secretary Salman Akram Raja and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi addressed a gathering of party workers at Haider Chowk in Hyderabad, calling for stronger public mobilisation in support of PTI founder Imran Khan, 24 NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

PTI Central Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said every major intersection had effectively become a “D-Chowk”, referring to the party’s protest movement.

 He said the people were ready to come out in support of Imran Khan and vowed that “the rule of oppression will end.”

“Workers will come out this time in large numbers,” Raja told the gathering.

Speaking on the occasion, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi asked the people of Hyderabad who the city belonged to, saying their public mandate had been “stolen”.

He alleged that those who had taken away the people’s mandate were “thieves” and claimed that the public mandate had been undermined not only in Hyderabad but across Pakistan.

Afridi said people who came to power through what he called a “fake mandate” behaved in such a manner.

He also criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz over her reported remarks about threats from other provinces, demanding that she apologise. 

The KP chief minister also questioned statements regarding India and said the government and military authorities should clarify their position on whether India remained a threat to Pakistan.

He further alleged that the interests and businesses of certain political families were linked to India and criticised what he described as close ties with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Afridi also criticised Pakistan’s major political families, alleging that they had repeatedly returned to power and transferred authority within their families.
