Skipper Salman Ali Agha rules out major changes ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has made it clear that no major changes are expected in the national squad ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, saying the team combination has already been finalised after months of preparation, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday. 

Speaking on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) podcast, Salman discussed his cricketing journey and the team’s roadmap for the mega event, to be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India.

“I don’t think there will be any major changes before the World Cup. This is the combination we will continue with. The roles for our playing XI and squad are clear, and you will see players performing in those defined roles,” he said.

The skipper highlighted Pakistan’s consistent approach over the past several months, which, he noted, has started yielding positive results.

“We cannot make significant changes in the next six matches because we have been preparing for the past six or seven months with the World Cup in mind. We have played with this group for six months, and now the results have begun to come,” he added.

Salman also pointed out that familiarity with Sri Lankan conditions—where Pakistan will play all their 2026 World Cup matches under the hybrid model—gives the team an added advantage.

“Senior players understand Sri Lankan conditions very well, including myself, because we have played a lot of cricket there. This coming series will be crucial, especially for the new players. We will take it very seriously,” he said.

Despite recent victories and growing momentum, the captain acknowledged that the squad still has room to improve.

“The team is on the right track, but there is still room for improvement. We want Pakistan to reach the level where everyone expects it to be,” Salman concluded.

Before the World Cup, Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series starting January 8 in Dambulla, marking an important phase in their final preparations.
