The Rahbar Committee of the opposition parties has formally expelled the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Awami National Party (ANP) allegedly for giving favours to the government.

Rahbar Committee now left with six members, announces movement to protect constitution of Pakistan

The decision to remove the aforementioned three parties from the committee was taken at a meeting at the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) leader Akram Khan Durrani in Islamabad on Friday. Now the six-member Rahbar Committee has announced a movement for protection of the constitution of Pakistan and mass meetings in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi on March 1, 19 and 23, respectively.

JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman, Mahmood Khan Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo of the National Party and Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) will address these mass meetings.

PkMAP Senator Usman Kakar said at the meeting that aforementioned parties’ decision to support the government on the Army Act and then vote for passage of the act showed they were not with the opposition anymore. “We are now just a six-member committee,” he said.

When asked whether the opposition parties, which comprise the Rahbar Committee, will support the PML-N’s stance on price hike in the parliament, Durrani said: “Our members in the parliament will decide this issue. In response to a question about possibility of inviting the ANP to the Rahbar Committee’s mass contact movement, Durrani said that heads of six parties comprising the Rahbar Committee would decide this issue.

In a related development, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman has said that mainstream political parties have disappointed people and fooled them by voting in favour of the bills promulgated by the government in the parliament.

Talking to the media at Baitur Rizwan, residence of Awais Shah Noorani, after offering him condolences at the death of his mother in Karachi on Friday, Rehman said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi robbed Kashmiris of their basic rights and freedom due to Imran Khan government’s flawed policies. He said the government had sold out Kashmir, but he was worried why some institutions were not realising this. He said that opposition parties would hold a mass meeting in Karachi on March 23. He said that opposition parties would provide a platform; they would not disappoint people. He said opposition parties would not leave people alone.

Rehman said that removal of incompetent rulers was inevitable as nothing good is expected from them. He said he had told PML-N Patron Nawaz Sharif to stay in jail; he would stand by him.

Financially, Rehman said, the country is heading towards destruction. He said that survival of a state depends on its economy. He said every individual in Pakistan is concerned about Pakistan’s security. He said that inflation is at an all-time high and there is no clue who would save the poor of this country. He said the entire nation is completely disappointed with the incumbent government’s policies.
