Nepra raises power tariff yet again

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has given already economically stressed people an Eid gift in the shape of raised power tariff, reported 24 News HD TV Channel on Friday.

The power regulatory authority has raised the electricity tariff by 90 paisa per unit.

The Nepra has put an extra burden of Rs 90 billion on the poor people of the country under the head of quarterly adjustment charges.

Nepra gave approval to the first and second quarterly adjustment of power distribution companies (Discos) 2020-21 fiscal year. The Discos had requested Rs 91.367 billion quarterly adjustments. The national power regulatory authority after analyzing the data has approved Rs 90.367 billion quarterly adjustments.

The Nepra decision will be implemented after the notification from the federal government.

Nepra said the government will decide how this decision affects the consumer after considering its social and economic policies.

The extra tariff will be received from the consumers within 12 months.
