UHS research board approves seven new certificate courses

Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Thursday approved seven new certificate courses aimed at strengthening research capacity, clinical skills, laboratory standards and scientific communication among undergraduate and postgraduate students in health sciences disciplines.

The approval was granted during the 225th meeting of the ASRB chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore.

The certificates include “Certificate in Quality Management (CQM) for Clinical Laboratories and Blood Banking”, a programme designed to improve quality assurance practices and standardization in diagnostic laboratories and transfusion services. The Board also approved six other certificate courses covering research methodology, clinical epidemiology, evidence-based medicine, clinical trials management, research ethics, grant writing and translational research.

The newly approved programmes include Certificate in Research Methodology and Clinical Exposure for MBBS, BDS and nursing students; Certificate in Research Methodology and Laboratory Research Skills for allied health sciences students; Advanced Certificate in Research Methodology, Biostatistics, Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine; Certificate in Clinical Trials Management; Certificate in Grant Writing, Research Communication, Innovation and Translational Research; and Certificate in Research Ethics and Bioethics.

During the meeting, the Board also considered and approved thesis evaluation reports of postgraduate students from various disciplines including paediatric surgery, anaesthesia, paediatrics, radiology and community medicine.
