Which other incident could have better illustrated the sheer incompetence of the authorities than the one that happened at Tando Allahyar on Thursday when a fire completely gutted a bamboo shop there while the firefighters looked on as their vehicles parked nearby were mounted on bricks, and not tyres, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The owner of the shop told the media that due to inability of the firefighters to reach site of the fire, he and others had to douse the flames on their own but by that time the wood and other goods worth millions of rupees had completely burnt into ashes.

The blaze was so intense that it even started threatening the neighbouring shops and homes, he informed.

Tando Allahyar Fire Tender In-charge Irfan Joyo said though police arrived at the site but it also felt helpless since its job is to maintain law and order, and not to put out the fire.

Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Sindh government always boasts of securing votes because of its performance. But incidents like these seem to be belying its tall claims.
