United States President Donald Trump has credited Pakistan’s leadership for playing a decisive role in securing a ceasefire with Iran and said he agreed to extend the truce at their request.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, Trump, while announcing a halt to the bombardment of Iran for the next two weeks, stated that he held discussions with Pakistan’s prime minister and military leadership, after which the United States agreed to a ceasefire. He emphasised that the truce would be mutual.

A report in a United States newspaper also highlighted Pakistan’s role in defusing tensions, stating that Islamabad’s mediation efforts led to the suspension of American strikes on Iran. 

The report noted that the efforts of Shehbaz Sharif and Syed Asim Munir proved instrumental in bringing both sides to the negotiating table.

According to the report, both Washington and Tehran have agreed to hold formal talks in Islamabad, with negotiations expected to begin on April 10.

Meanwhile, Jane Marriott congratulated Pakistan on the ceasefire and acknowledged its diplomatic role in easing tensions. 

She expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s efforts, stating that its effective diplomacy had played a key role in achieving the ceasefire.

The development marks a significant diplomatic breakthrough, positioning Pakistan as an important mediator in efforts to stabilise the Middle East and prevent further escalation of conflict.
