PPP committee decides to meet govt committee

The National Issues Committee of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) met virtually on Sunday with party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in the chair and decided to contact the similar committee formed by the government on Monday.

PPP leaders Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood, Naveed Qamar, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sardar Saleem Haider, Faisal Karim Kundi, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti and Ali Haider Gillani.

Last week, the PPP decided to engage with all parties, including its rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to develop national consensus on critical issues such as security, digital economy and agriculture.

The decision was made at a meeting at Bilawal House, where party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari directed PPP’s Rabta committee to engage with political parties and figure out the issues on which political consensus can be developed. The move shows the mandate of the Rabta committee, which was established to address PML-N’s unmet promises, has further been expanded.

PPP, the key ally of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, seems to have intensified its efforts to engage with opposition parties in parliament to present its case more assertively, as committee members at the last week's meeting highlighted ‘lack of timely consultation’ by the federal government on political, policy, and legislative matters, identifying it as a key obstacle that needs to be addressed.
