Police in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on Saturday arrested four persons including three brothers for not allowing a vaccination team to administer polio drops to children, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to details, a polio team was on duty to administer polio drops during door-to-door campaign in Quaid-e-Azam Colony of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. During their visit family members at a home refused to allow polio team to administer polio drops to their children.

Initially the polio team tried to convince them but later a clash erupted between the polio team and the family members and they also hurled abuses at the vaccinators.

Later the police tried to control the situation but the clash turned into physical fight during which a uniform of police constable Umer Farooq was torn.

Police team summoned the fresh contingent which arrested four persons namely Imran, Irfan, Arsalan and Faisal while five accused managed to escape from the scene.

Police team after registering a case started investigation.

Moreover, department of local bodies Sindh issued show-cause notices to 12 municipal commissioners for showing negligence and absence during anti-polio campaign.

The show caused notices were serviced to Town Municipal Commissioner Guddap Ahmed Yar Kario, Town Municipal Commissioner Nazimabad Athar Hussain, Town Municipal Commissioner Liaquatabad Darya Khan Patafi.

Elahi Buksh of Jinnah Town, Iqrar Ahmad Jablani Chanesar Town, Javed Rehman Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Imtiaz Ali Mangi Saffura Town, Tanveer Ahmed Sohrab Goth, Amjad Ali Patafi Baldia Town, Mohammad Javed Qamar Maripur and Shaheedullah Bakhsh, Moro Mir Bahria Town and Agha Ali Ahmad of Orangi Town also served with show cause notices.

All the above mentioned municipal commissioners were directed to report assistant commissioners immediately.

Municipal Commissioners were directed to seek explanation from these commissioners and ensure presence of polio workers during the anti-polio campaign.

Dacoits attack polio team in Larkana

Dacoits attacked a polio team in the jurisdiction of Police Station Seether near Mohanjadaro and physically tortured incharge of polio team Abdul Latif Khokhar.

The incharge of polio team said that during the attack the dacoits tried snatch his motorcycle.

On his resistance dacoits started torturing the incharge of polioteam iduring which he became critically injured.

The polio team also staged a protest demonstration.
