Pilot injured as Indian plane crashes in Karnataka

In a shocking incident, a private aircraft belonging to Red Bird Aviation crashed in Vijaypura district of Indian state of Karnataka after developing an engine glitch, leaving both the captain and a trainee pilot injured on Sunday, reported Indian media.

The incident occurred at Mangalore village, where the light aircraft, carrying two persons, crashed and left both occupants injured. They were later shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

The aircraft crashed into a field. Visuals from the spot showed the plane turtled after hitting the ground, with the front portion suffering extensive damage.

The aircraft was on its way to Belagavi when it’s crash-landed in a farm field in Vijayapura’s Babaleshwara.

Upon receiving the information, cops reached the spot. The incident occurred within the limits of the Babaleshwar Police Station. Further details on the cause of the accident are awaited.

Sharing preliminary findings, the investigating officer said the aircraft, belonging to Red Bird Aviation, was flying from Kalaburagi to Belagavi when it developed an engine fault and crashed suddenly.

He further confirmed that there were two people on board, identified as the captain and a trainee pilot, India Today reported. “Both sustained grievous injuries in the incident and have been shifted to the nearest hospital for further treatment. Further investigation is underway," the investigation officer added.
