Amid poor supply, millers warn of flour shortage in Punjab

Amid reduction in wheat release by the Punjab government and Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO), flour crisis has started to rise once again in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel. 

The Pakistan Flour Mills Association representative Asim Raza has raised an alarm by saying that in previous years, 20 to 26 thousand tons of wheat were released daily but now the government was releasing 6000 tons of wheat to all the flour mills of the province.

He said that flour mills were getting wheat at the rate of Rs 3,000 per maund and more than 50 percent of the total release is being released in Lahore alone.

Flour Mills Association representative  said that the demand for 20 kg bags across Lahore is 262,000 bags. He said that supply of flour in Lahore is still stable as 90,000 bags of 20kg were being supplied in Lahore per day.

Asim Raza said that the supply of 15 kg bags was also included to meet the demand for flour in Lahore.

He said there is a decrease in the rate of wheat release by PASSCO and the Punjab government, which is causing a flour crisis in Punjab.

Flour Millers claim problems were arising due to disruptions in the supply system by the government as except Lahore, there is no wheat in abundance in flour mills across Punjab.
