Inside Deepika-Ranbir’s shockingly calm reunion in YJHD after breakup
Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor’s romance may have ended years ago, but according to someone who witnessed it up close, there was no trace of bitterness when the former couple reunited on set afterward, much to everyone’s surprise.

One of Bollywood’s most scrutinized real-life love stories began when Deepika and Ranbir met while filming Bachna Ae Haseeno in 2008.
Sparks flew, the two dated for nearly two years, and then went their separate ways.

Despite the breakup, they went on to become one of Hindi cinema’s most adored on-screen pairs, especially after starring together in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013.
Now, Naveen Kaushik, who played Sumer in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and also acted in Dhurandhar, has lifted the curtain on what the atmosphere was really like between Deepika and Ranbir during that shoot. Notably, the film marked their first collaboration after the breakup.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Naveen revealed that the set was filled with curiosity and quiet anticipation.
“It was completely professional. Like everyone else, we also thought a fight might break out anytime, and we were almost anticipating that if something happened, we’d witness it and have some gossip to talk about. But nothing like that happened.”

Instead, he said, the two actors maintained a calm, respectful dynamic throughout.
“They were absolutely professional on set,” Naveen added, explaining that the shoot itself was physically exhausting due to extreme locations rather than long hours.
“Our shoot was extremely grueling, not because of long working hours, but because of the locations. We were shooting on very steep mountains, sometimes climbing ten feet straight up, and shooting there.”

Despite the demanding conditions, the mood remained upbeat. “Despite that, there were always parties with the entire cast and crew in between. They were very cordial and very nice,” he said.
Naveen went on to heap praise on Deepika Padukone’s work ethic, calling her unmatched in professionalism.

“I often say this: I have never seen an actor more professional than Deepika Padukone. She was always on time, knew her job, knew her lines, and greeted everyone with a smile. She never threw a tantrum, not even once.”

When it came to Ranbir Kapoor, Naveen described a surprisingly down-to-earth star who never let his stature come in the way of camaraderie. “Even though he was already a star, he treated me like a brother.
We used to pull each other’s leg. After a point, we forgot that this was Ranbir Kapoor, that the film rested on his shoulders, that he wasn’t just one of us.”

He added that Ranbir seemed deeply aware of who he was, both personally and professionally. “I think he always knew he was the prince of the Kapoor family. He understood that if you love people, they will automatically love you back. And if you work with dedication, that will eventually speak for itself.”
Since then, both actors have moved on in their personal lives.

Ranbir married Alia Bhatt in 2022, and the couple welcomed their daughter Raha later that year. Deepika, meanwhile, married Ranveer Singh, and the two became parents to their daughter Dua Padukone Singh in 2024.
On the professional front, nostalgia refuses to die. Fans continue to passionately hope for another romantic comedy starring Deepika and Ranbir together, a desire that has only intensified after viral clips from Deepika’s recent fan meet reignited talk of their iconic on-screen chemistry.
