MEPCO launches easy installment plan for agricultural consumers in Multan

The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has introduced a flexible installment package to facilitate agricultural consumers in clearing their long-standing electricity dues, according to an official notification issued on Tuesday.

The initiative, approved by MEPCO Chief Executive Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid, is aimed at easing the financial burden on agricultural tube well consumers, particularly those facing disconnections or arrears dating back to 2015. Under the newly launched plan, consumers owing up to Rs1 million will be able to pay their dues in 30 monthly installments.

For outstanding amounts between Rs1 million and Rs3 million, MEPCO has extended the installment period to 40 months. Meanwhile, cases involving dues exceeding Rs3 million will be reviewed individually, and decisions will be made based on the consumer’s circumstances.

Disconnected connections can also be restored under the scheme. Consumers will be required to pay only 10 percent of the total dues as a down payment along with Reconnection Order (RCO) charges to initiate the installment plan.

However, the relief comes with a caveat, a monthly markup will be applied to each installment. Moreover, the facility will be withdrawn if a consumer defaults on any of the payments.

The formal notification of the plan was issued by Chief Engineer Customer Services, Syed Jawad Mansoor Ahmed, highlighting MEPCO’s efforts to recover billions in pending dues while providing a feasible solution to agricultural consumers grappling with financial stress.
